The use of circular pipes with a flat base can be used at its best when respect and precision of the bottom gradient are important for the hydraulic running of the pipeline. Equally important is the static reserve, i.e. the mechanical resistance that the supporting flat base of the pipe creates. The mechanical resistance is higher than in a pipe with no flat base because this latter is in fact very helpful in reducing the creation of dangerous hollows at the base while filling up the trench.
